Why We Exist

Spouses and partners are deeply embedded in the day-to-day reality of cystic fibrosis—managing routines, navigating systems, and walking through the long-term impact of cystic fibrosis in everyday life alongside the person they love.

Yet most resources and conversations are not built with them in mind.

Project CF Spouse exists to close that gap by creating space, support, and recognition that reflects the reality of this role.

About Project CF Spouse

Project CF Spouse was founded to address a long-standing need within the cystic fibrosis community—the lack of dedicated support, resources, and recognition for spouses and partners.

Since formally establishing as a nonprofit in 2016, PCFS has focused on building a space that reflects the real-life role partners hold. This includes not only emotional support, but access to shared experiences, practical insight, and community-driven understanding.

Over time, this work has grown from grassroots support into a broader platform focused on strengthening community, identifying unmet needs, and contributing to a more inclusive understanding of the CF experience.

Meet Our Leadership Team

Founder and Executive Director

Megan Barker

Megan’s journey as a CF spouse began in 2007 when she met her future husband, Ty, while working as a respiratory therapist. A shared love of football sparked a friendship that quickly grew into more. They married in 2008 and welcomed twin sons in 2012.

After marrying Ty, Megan recognized how few resources existed for CF spouses and partners. Her desire to connect with others who understood the experience eventually led her to found Project CF Spouse. Through the organization, Megan works to ensure that CF partners and spouses have access to community, education, advocacy, and support as they navigate life alongside cystic fibrosis.

Director of Research and Program Development

Rebecca Jernigan

Rebecca’s journey as a CF spouse began in 2016 when she met her future husband, Kody. Although she knew little about cystic fibrosis when they began dating, she quickly began seeking information and support as their relationship grew. They became engaged one year after their first date and married in 2018.

Rebecca discovered Project CF Spouse in 2020 during a challenging season marked by the pandemic, a cross-country move, and professional demands. The community provided the understanding and connection she needed. As a board member and veterinarian working in biomedical research, Rebecca brings a valuable scientific perspective and a strong desire to give back to the community that supported her.

Director of Strategic Initiatives

Yvette Imsand

Yvette’s journey as a CF spouse began in 2008 when she met her future husband, Jesse. As their relationship grew, she actively sought information about cystic fibrosis and resources addressing the unique experiences of CF partners. After years of finding little support, she discovered Project CF Spouse and became an active member of the community. Yvette and Jesse married in 2018.

Now part of the Project CF Spouse leadership team, Yvette draws from her personal experience to advocate for CF partners and help develop the resources she once struggled to find. She is a certified nursing assistant pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing and is passionate about ensuring that spouses and partners feel informed, supported, and understood.
